 Smurfit Kappa said that all outstanding regulatory clearances which were a condition to closing the previously announced “combination” with WestRock have now been done, the deal closed on Friday (5 July). Smurfit WestRock has launched its primary listing on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker “SW,” following the completion of the merger between Smurfit Kappa and WestRock last week.

Smurfit WestRock will operate in 40 countries, have 100,000 employees and will  be worth about US$34 billion. WestRock Canada has plants in Alberta, Saskatchewan , Manitoba , Ontario and Quebec for a total of 12  in Canada. They produce folding cartons, corrugated and specialty packaging. “Combining Smurfit Kappa and WestRock creates a world-leading sustainable packaging player, bringing together a tremendous depth of experience and expertise from both companies,” says Tony Smurfit, Smurfit WestRocks CEO. “We believe that this combination has created the ‘go-to’ leader and partner of choice in sustainable packaging.”
