RANDEN, GERMANY—  Kolbus has brought a new short-run casemaker to the market.  The new DA 160 runs at 20 per minute. The DA 160 handles book cases from 205mm wide by 140mm high, up to a maximum of 735mm wide by 420mm high. Adjustments are fully automatic. Board thickness is from 1mm to 4mm. Two key developments, including a new roll slitter that reduces waste when changing format:It changes the spine size on-the-run, rather than having to stop to adjust. The use of a generic blanket stereo for the gluing cylinder that covers all sizes; this reduces makeready to under two minutes from 10-15 minutes.  Designed for one-person operation. As well as casemaking, target applications include luxury packaging, calendars and folder production.
