Nearly 20 Printers Want To Hire LSC Employees
CHICAGO—
Printers are standing in line to hire the 656 LSC Communications employees who are set to be laid off by March 31. Sixteen printing companies have reached out to LCS directly so far. LCS said have inquiries coming in from printing companies around the country, many of whom are offering generous relocation packages. When the layoffs were announced, employees said they worried about the job market where the unemployment rate is historically low but where their skills may not be in demand.
LSC announced in January they planned to shutter two plants amid a decline in demand for catalogs and magazines. LSC plans to shift its remaining local work printing catalogs and magazines to other plants. Once part of RR Donnelly, LSC is the largest book printer in North America also a major retail inserts printer, magazine printer and office products manufacturer. LSC has two locations in Canada, Newmarket and Mississauga under the Tops Products and Esselte Canada names. LSC Communications which was spun off from Donnelly in 2016. The company was bought out of bankruptcy by Atlas Holdings, a private equity company in 2020.
