Walmart Pushing to Get Rid of Single Use Plastics
CANADA—
Walmart Canada gets set to remove single-use plastic shopping bags from its stores, single-use plastic shopping bags at checkout won’t be available for customers. Instead, customers were asked to bring their own reusable bags starting at the end of the week or they’ll need to buy reusable ones from the retailer. Company representatives said the move is expected to prevent the annual use of 680 million plastic bags, weighing around 10.5 million pounds, annually.
This is part of a concerted effort by major retailers to remove plastic from packaging and replace it with biodegradable paper packaging. Not only do retailers want recyclable packaging but they want biodegradable packaging . Volumes are expected to raise for printers that print on paper or paper board instead of plastics .
