Book Printing Growing Faster than Expected
TORONTO—
Book printers in Canada are reporting surprising double digit growth. E-books have declined in popularity since 2013 and dropped nearly 30 percent by the end of last year. Print books have not only recovered, but have seen increased of 10 percent over the same period. The book printers reduced their capacity over the years and are now scrambling to catch up. The recent Christmas demand has put book printers into overdrive. Almost all Canadian book printers have reported exceptional growth.
The US industry is seeing more demand than it can supply. This has had a spill over effect with Canadian book printers. More Canadian printers are selling into the US and the Canadian book market is also growing. Freisen has added a new case book binding line and is adding
a second second this year. Copywell who does a lot of trade book printing has had their best year ever and are looking at adding equipment. MultiBookbinding Canada's largest perfect and case bound bindery is adding new equipment in February that will incase their capacity by 40%. The book printing market has become one of the surprise bright spots in the printing industry.
