Kodak Follows Other Plate Manufactures With Price Increase
ROCHESTER—
Kodak announced it will increase the price of Kodak offset printing plates globally. Plate prices will increase up to 9%. The price of aluminum, the primary raw material used to manufacture printing plates, now is reaching multi-year highs, it has become necessary to institute a plates price increase. John O’Grady, President, Print Systems Division, Kodak, explained.
“Looking to the future, we are exploring different business models to reduce the effect of aluminum volatility on our customers,” O’Grady added. Printers benefit from higher aluminum prices when they recycle their used plates."
The other major plate manufactures have already increased their prices because of raising aluminum costs. Fujifilm did an increase at the end of last year and Agfa did an increase in May. With the recent US tariffs on aluminum will that force the price of printing plates even higher.
