Datamark closure hits staff of hundreds
LAVAL, QC—Datamark Systems will close its facilities and cease all operations by the end of March, affecting more than 400 jobs including 300 in the greater Montreal area.
Union president Stéphane Daigneault told ICI Radio-Canada that management broke the news to staff at a meeting held Feb. 28, 2014.
Chief executive officer Jeffrey Zuneshine attributed the closure to eroding markets and reduced margins in a letter sent to employees. Some staff will retain their positions to complete outstanding work orders.
Datamark, a commercial printing company that produces forms, labels and other products, was founded in 1978. It specializes in management services for print and electronic media with stations in Boucherville and Montreal. It also operates distribution centres and sales offices across the country, and an office in Florida.
In 2007 the publicly traded company, then called Datamark Systems Group, was acquired by Komunik, a privately-owned Montreal firm that went public following the deal. In 2009, however, Komunik entered court protection and several of its assets were purchased by an entity partly owned by Zuneshine, Datamark's former and once-again CEO.

This is all happening because Jeffrey Zunenshine doesn't know what he is doing. He only thinks of himself and didn't care about how what he was doing was going to affect 500 employees in the end or his suppliers. After the Komunik issue he hand picked the people that were going to stay on and they were dedicated employees to the end and he somehow managed to earn back the trust of the suppliers and in the end they all got stiffed again.
