Tembec to idle B.C. pulp mill
SKOOKUMCHUCK, B.C.—Tembec announced today that its pulp mill in Skookumchuck, B.C., will take at least two weeks of market related downtime effective June 29. Tembec attributed the temporary closure to poor market conditions, the strength of the Canadian dollar, and the black liquor tax credit now available to U.S. chemical pulp producers.
The Skookumchuck pulp mill can produce 650 metric tonnes of northern bleached softwood kraft pulp daily.
Tembec also recently announced that it would idle all its Northern Ontario and some B.C. sawmills in the coming weeks. That will affect about 500 employees in Ontario.
