Tembec shutters Quebec pulp mill
MATANE, QC—Yet another Canadian pulp mill is taking some downtime. Tembec has announced plans to idle a Quebec pulp mill as well as three other mills in France. The Canadian mill, scheduled to re-open at the end of the month after a short hiatus, will be idled indefinitely, the company said. About 120 employees will be laid off. Tembec said the decision was made because of slow demand, and expectations the market will not improve anytime soon. The Quebec mill produces high-yield pulp, used in a variety of papers, including printing and writing papers. It has an annual production capacity of 250,000 tonnes.
