Sappi has increase prices across two key product groups. Effective from 16 March, Sappi has increase prices of mechanical and woodfree coated. Sappi said the move follows “a prolonged period of significant market pricing pressure, combined with structurally elevated cost levels across energy, transport, labour, chemicals, and fibre”.

In 2024 Sappi cut it's paper capacity by 30% or 500 million tons by closing the Lanaken Mill in Belgium and the Stockstadt mill in Germany. At the time Sappi cited significant overcapacity in graphic paper along with the global economic downturn and geopolitical instability. The Graphic Paper division of Sappi is headquartered in Johannesburg. Sappi produces 4.6 million tons of paper, 2.3 million tons of paper pulp, and 1.5 million tons of dissolving pulp per year. It employs around 12,000 staff globally.
