Transcontinental Selling Packaging Operations
MONTREAL—
Transcontinental has entered into a agreement with ProAmpac Holdings to sell its “Packaging Business”. The Transaction will result in the divestiture of the Corporation’s entire interest in the Packaging Sector. The sale price is is approximately $2.10 billion (Canadian). The Transaction is subject to shareholder approval, regulatory approvals. Packaging is 58% of Transcontinentals total sales. Retail Services and Commercial Printing make up about 42% or just over $1 billion in sales.
The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026. Isabelle Marcoux, Executive Chair of the Board said “As we approach our 50th anniversary, Transcontinental is once again reinventing itself. We are excited to open a new chapter in our history, with a sharp focus on advancing the transformation of our Retail Services & Printing and Educational Publishing businesses. The new Transcontinental will be a strong Canadian company, fully committed to growing its presence in Canada."

All the time and money invested in packaging. Seems strange to just abandon the strategy now. Seems like they made a big mistake.
