BRIXEN, ITALY—  Durst has launched its P5 SMP hybrid LED multi-pass inkjet printer. With a printing width of 3.5m ( 137 inches ) , the machine has been designed for both board and roll printing and is based on the company’s P5 platform. The maximum production capacity reaches five million square meters per year. It can handle both roll and board materials up to 70mm thick and, currently, two formats can be loaded simultaneously. Durst said that  up to four formats will be possible. Depending on the application, the P5 SMP can control up to ten colour channels; to extend the colour gamut with process colours (orange and violet), use light colours for smoother gradients, or apply white as a base for overprinting. The inks are cured using LED technology and print quality can be adjusted through resolution levels of 700×1,200dpi and 900×1,200dpi. Various options are available from Durst for the machine, from feeders with buffering, to alignment tables, and stackers that enable unattended operation throughout an entire shift. The maximum productivity of the P5 SMP is 1,940sqm/hr or 340 3.2x1.6m boards per hour. The machine is delivered with the Durst Workflow and Durst Analytics software packages.
