UPM Closing Another Mill and Cutting Capacity
ETTRINGEN GERMANY ,—
UPM has announced plans to cut 270,000 tonnes of uncoated paper capacity with the closure of the Ettringen mill in Germany, along with streamlining at some of its other operations. The site has been making paper since 1897. It currently makes UPM Eco Basic, UPM Eco, UPM MaxS, UPM Eco Prime, UPM News, UPM Eco, and UPM Max S.
There would be a total of 462 positions impacted, thereof 107 in Finland, 314 in Germany, 34 in the UK and 7 in the USA,UPM stated. UPM Communication Papers has three other mills in Germany at Augsburg, Nordland Papier, and Schongau. Last year the division closed its Hürth newsprint mill near Cologne and decommissioned a paper machine at the Nordland Papier fine paper facility. Announcements about paper mill shutdowns has become a regular occurrence with Stora Enso, Canford, Island Papers , Arjowiggins, UPM, Westrock, International Paper and Domtar have announced mill or machine shut downs in the several years.
UPM Ettringen is located some 90 kilometers from Munich. Founded in 1897 and employs 236.
