Thunder Bay Paper Mill UP For Sale
THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO—
Resolute Forest Products has announced plans to sell its Thunder Bay, Ont., pulp and paper mill. The company said the move is intended to help accelerate the acquisition of Resolute by the Paper Excellence Group, through its subsidiary, Domtar. Thunder Bay mill employs 462 people, produces newsprint and market pulp. The mill once had the world' largest paper machine and has had up to 4 machines running. The mill produces over 500 million metric tons.
Once owned by AbitibiBowater which later became Resolute Forest Products. Resolute did not indicate if any potential buyers were in place. Any sale of the Thunder Bay pulp and paper mill will be contingent upon closing of the announced acquisition of Resolute by Domtar, and to applicable regulatory approvals. The acquisition of Resolute by Domtar continues to be expected in the first half of 2023.
