Central Ontario Web has been closed down by owner Metroland. Metroland is owned by Torstar which also owns the Toronto Star. Central Ontario Web was a coldset offset web plant. They had a Goss 34' 28 unit web and a Global 35" web with 18 units . Central Ontario Web was bought by Metroland in 2008 in a multi million dollar deal . At one point it had over 50 employees and printed newspapers and flyers. All equipment was actioned off on October 26th.

Torstar recently closed Hamilton Web which also printed community newspapers and flyers. Metroland is Ontario's largest publisher of community newspapers. Torstar is Ontario's largest publisher of daily newspapers .  Torstar was bought by NordStar Capital in 2020. NordStar's two partners Jordan Bitove and Paul Rivett have recently got into a fight over management of TorStar. The fight appears to be over cost cutting moves. Has the closing of Central Ontario Web and Hamilton Web been part of the dispute? All attempts by PrintCAN to get any comments from Metroland and Torstar on the reasons for  closing of Central Ontario Web have not been returned.
