UPM Strike Causing World Label Shortage
FINLAND ,—
UPM is one of Europes largest paper manufactures and all of it's Finnish mills are on strike.The strike will has pass the 100-day mark on April 10th. The strike, which started on 1 January and is affecting all UPM’s Finnish pulp and paper mills Negotiations between the union and UPM were continuing intensively, and that the conciliator had submitted a settlement proposal in the negotiations between UPM Pulp and the Union. The strike is causing serious issues with the availability of printing and label papers across Europe.
UPM Raflatac is the largest supplier of label backing papers and that other suppliers are not able to completely fill the gap. This has effected the European paper market and has now hit the North American market . One of the reasons given for cancelling LabelExpo Europe was the shortage of label stock for exhibitors to demonstrate on .
