Heidelberg Moves Into Electric Car Charging Market
HEIDELBERG , GERMANY—
Heidelberger in a surprise move has acquired the charging station technology of the energy company EnBW from Karlsruhe and expanding in to the electromobility market. Heidelberg will now be offering a product for public and semi-public applications in addition to solutions already successfully established in the home sector. The new offering is aimed primarily at municipal utilities, local authorities, companies and for customer parking lots, primarily in Germany and Europe.
With the rapid ramp-up of e-cars, the network of nationwide charging points in Germany and the EU will also be significantly expanded by 2030. Sales of the charging station from Heidelberg are scheduled to start in mid-2022. In the last several years Heidelberg has sold off the Chemical Division, Docufly Software Division, attempted to sell Gallus Label Press Division and discontinued the Primefire , XL 140 & XL 162 over sized presses. After selling off non-core assets in the printing business this has left some observers a little puzzled. How electric car charging fits into Heidelberg's core market of the printing industry has not been explained.
