Lowe-Martin Goes Though Belt Tightening
OTTAWA—
Lowe-Martin has let go or laid off about 30 staff and has tightened expenses . The have also temporarily rolled back wages . They have put a freeze on discretionary expenses. This belt tightening comes as a result of several factors happening at the same time. The installation of a new ERP system has had major problems, installation of a new Goss Web has taken longer than expected and a short fall of sales expecations all effected the bottom line.
Despite roomers none of Lowe-Matin plants are being closed and 20 off the lay offs are temporary. All layoffs were in Ottawa. A new organizational structure has been put in place to help drive efficiencies and reduce costs. Lowe-Martin is one of the largest privately held printing companies in Canada with over 500 employees and were listed as Canada's 15 th largest printer by Graphic Monthly.
