Book printed in 1482 comes to Canada

 Queen's University has been given one of the oldest books printed in english. A 1482 copy of Caxtons Polycronicon ( only 50 know to exist) printed by William Caxton is now at the Queen's University rare book libary. It is from the earliest period of printing. Caxton's font for this book, known as "caxton type 4 " most likely originated from the low countries and reflect the written style of manuscript books of the times.

Caxton spent time in Calogne aquiring the equipment and skill before crossing the channel and setting up in Westminister near London. Starting in 1476 he printed over 100 titles in English. He was one of the first pioneers to start printing in english in the begining days of the  in printing industry.
