MONTREAL—Pierre Karl Péladeau will be appointed chairman of the board for Quebecor Media and TVA Group after Serge Gouin retires in May. He will also be vice-chairman of the board for Quebecor.

Robert Dépatie will replace Péladeau as president and chief executive officer of Quebecor and Quebecor Media. Dépatie has been president and chief executive officer of Videotron, a Quebecor subsidiary, since 2003.

"The governance committee and I are very pleased to transfer responsibility for the Corporation's management to Robert," said Péladeau in a release. "With his team and with all our other collaborators at QMI, he has led Videotron to industry-leading performance…and has built it into the most respected telecom company in Quebec."

"I am extremely proud of this huge vote of confidence,” said Dépatie in the release. "I am grateful for the trust my management colleagues have placed in me over the past ten years and I wish to thank Pierre Karl for inspiring us to realize the vision we framed when Quebecor Media began."

Quebecor's scope has expanded from print to a wide range of media offerings under Péladeau's 14-year leadership. Its properties include community paper and flyer printer/distributor Quebecor Media Printing; magazine publishing house Publications TVA; newspaper publisher Sun Media; Canoe.ca and its network of online properties; Quebecor Media, which operates a French TV network and several speciality channels; and more in sectors including advertising, internet access services, and video game development.

The corporate management changes take effect May 8, at the time of Quebecor's annual shareholders meeting.
