Transcontinental closes Trois-Rivieres T.R. Offset plant
TROIS-RIVIÈRES, QUE.—Transcontinental announced today that on June 4, 2011, it will shut down the Transcontinental T.R. Offset printing plant in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The only publication being printed there is the daily paper Le Nouvelliste, whose printing will now be handled by the Transcontinental Transmag plant in Montreal. The more advanced Transmag plant, with its higher output capacity, is said to better suit the needs of the evolving news printing industry.
50 employees at T.R. Offset will be affected by the closure, with Transcontinental offering severance packages, and placement services to help them find new employment.
