Ontario recycling fees increase for 2009
TORONTO—Companies using Ontario’s blue box program will see steward fees increase once again in 2009. The Stewardship Ontario program places 50% of Ontario’s blue box costs onto businesses that use recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, aluminum, steel and glass.
The following printing-related increases are scheduled for this year: Magazine, directory, catalogue and other printed material fees will increase by 1.191¢/kg to 3.373¢/kg; Gable top containers, asceptic containers and paper laminants will increase by 0.974¢/kg to 13.508 ¢/kg; and corrugated cardboard, boxboard and other paper packaging will increase by 0.768¢/kg to 8.02¢/kg.
Businesses that generate more than $2 million in gross annual Ontario revenues must register, provide the weight of their contribution to the blue boxes and pay a quarterly fee.
