John Shaw Former President of PE+E Dies
ETOBICOKE ( TORONTO)—
John (Jack) Shaw former President, PE+E (Photo Engravers + Electrotypers) died on March 10th. He was president of the company for at least 20 before Quebecor bought the company in 1993. PE+E in its heyday had over 300 employees ,two rotogravure presses and perfect binding lines. John was involved in a union lock out in the 80's that resulted in the end of over manning of presses. PE+E was owned by Sears and only printed their catalogues.
They had three major editions with run lengths of up to 5 million copies. John had a deep and fulfilling relationships across the printing industry in Canada and beyond. Jack graduated from University of Toronto as a mechanical engineer and was a fearless and accomplished builder and fixer of projects big and small. He loved to counsel young people, and he was quick to contribute anything needed to friends, neighbours, and family. Jack and his wife Hilda enjoyed 60 years together, based in Etobicoke with summers spent in Muskoka.
