Sappi Starts New Round of Paper Price Increases
—
Sappi has announced its seventh price increase this year, with prices to go up 10% on a range of printing grades. The paper mill said the increase would be applicable to all of its woodfree coated, uncoated and mechanical coated paper grades. The Mill said that “continuing heavy cost rises” for input materials and freight charges made the action necessary to recover profitability.
At the beginning of the year Sappi announced an increase of 8%-10% . In April that was followed by a further price increase on printing paper grades of 7%-10%. Sappi is one of North America's largest suppliers of coated grades. Other Mills are expected to follow. All paper mills, plate and ink manufacturers have put up prices, or implement surcharges, in what has been described as a perfect storm of spiralling raw materials and transport costs.
