NEW YORK—  Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi in an article by Barron's recommends that it is now time for HP to buy Xerox. In the article he gives several compelling reasons. " The original idea was that there were synergies in combining two major players in enterprise printing. But the proposal was a minnow-swallowing-a-whale situation, which would have required Xerox to take on substantial leverage to buy its far-larger rival." Sacconaghi noted that since Xerox first floated the idea of a combination, its market cap has been cut in half, while HP’s market value has appreciated 34%. He thinks there’s now “compelling” logic in an HP acquisition of Xerox. At the time of Xerox's attempt to buy HP the question was raised than, that it made more logic for HP to buy Xerox. HP has since suggested that some consolidation in the office printer market should be done.
