Domtar Closing More Paper Mills
PORT HURON—
Domtar Paper has announced that they plan to permanently close the 100 year old paper Port Huron mill. The mills has capacity of 95,000 short tons and produces variety of uncoated free sheets of technical and specialty papers. Port Huron’s mill as well three other Domtar facilities in the US are expected to close in the first quarter of 2021, affecting 780 employees in total.
Following production cuts last year, the Domtar Port Huron mill currently employs about 212 people making specialty papers. The paper maker says the capacity reduction program is to, “Improve operating margins and maximize productivity and cash flow.” Domtar is North America's largest manufacturer of uncoated feesheets.
