Two Plant Closures By Transcontinental
MONTREAL—
Transcontinental has announced the permanent closure of the printing plants Transcontinental de la Capitale (Québec City) and Transcontinental Qualimax (Gatineau), both located in Québec. Following the June decision by customer CN2I to not publish during the week , the Coopérative nationale de l’information indépendante . These two plants primarily print the CN2i’s daily newspapers, formerly owned by Groupe Capitales Médias.
These closures result in the loss of approximately 30 jobs per plant. Transcontinental keeped these plants running at the request of CN2i, publisher of Le Soleil, Le Droit, Le Nouvelliste, Le Quotidien-Le Progrès, La Tribune and La Voix de l'Est, because of their market proximity. The other work from these plants, including the Saturday editions of CN2i dailies, will be transferred to Transcontinental Transmag in Montréal.
