Performance Printing Closing
SMITH FALLS, ONTARIO—
Metroland Media (Torstar) announced Friday that it is closing Performance Printing in Smiths Falls after more than 40 years in operation. Forty-six people will be out of work when the doors close on June 19th. Thirty-eight full-time and eight part-time employees will be affected. In a statement, Torstar says the decision to close the plant “is a function of the exceptional challenges facing
the printing business, and the necessity of Torstar consolidating print operations at fewer plants as we wrestle with declining print volumes. The closure will not affect the six Metroland community newspapers printed at the Smith Falls plant. In 2011 Metroland bought at the time privately held Performance Printing.
