Sappi Buys First Mill In Canada
MATANE, QUEBEC—
Sappi, one of the printing industry largest manufactures of packaging and graphic papers , has announced the acquisition of the Matane high yield hardwood pulp mill in Quebec. The mill produced pulp for making packaging paper board . Sappi has four mills in the States this will be there first mill in Canada. The mill at one time was owned by Tembec.
Sappi printing paper brands include McCoy, Opus, Somerset and Flo. Sappi became a major player in North America when it bought SD Warren in the late 90's. Steve Binnie, CEO of Sappi said,"this acquisition will provide Sappi with both cost reductions and decreased volatility at a very competitive price per ton of pulp. The transaction strengthens Sappi's pulp integration, improves our profitability and is another significant milestone towards realizing our Vision2020 goal."
