The pending postal strike has been put on hold. The postal workers union has said it would not issue the required 72 hour job action notice. Negotiations were facing a Wednesday deadline of 12.01 a.m. deadline for a strike or lock out. Both sides are continuing to talk . The union is demanding higher wages and better working conditions.

The union has warned its members that there may still be a work stoppage if there is no progress in negotiations. With 50% to 70% of what is printed going through the mail a strike would have a significant impact on the printing industry. A number of direct mail printers have said it took over a year to get volumes back up after the last strike.
