City magazines' printing cut from Toronto budget
TORONTO—Toronto Mayor Rob Ford saw most of his proposed budget cuts rejected last week, but a motion to cease printing Our Toronto and City Insider magazines passed in a 29-16 vote.
Costs for the publications were projected to total $476,000 this year. City Insider was printed internally, while Our Toronto's printer varied as each issue's production was sourced to the lowest bidder.
According to a city spokesperson, City Insider will continue as an online publication. Our Toronto's future has not been decided but an online version is being considered.
City Insider was an internal staff publication produced three times per year. Our Toronto magazine, which launched in the fall of 2008, was also published three times annually and was was delivered to all households in the city via Canada Post and an external firm.
