Wayzgoose celebrates great book printing
VANCOUVER—The Wayzgoose Fine Printing Show held at the Vancouver Public Library celebrated the work and expertise of local printing houses, book publishers, designers and artists.

According to event sponsor The Alcuin Society, highlights of the Oct. 5 show included a paper marbling demo by book restoration and repair expert Phyllis Greenwood, a letterpress display from the Bowler Press, and a relief printing demonstration by Gary Sim of Sim Publishing.

Peter Braune of New Leaf Creative solutions was on hand to demo intaglio printing, bookbinders Kathy Nash and Adele Shaak were in attendance to talk their trade, and Laura Widmer represented the world of woodcuts.

The name Wayzgoose refers to two traditions in the printing industry: an annual dinner or special outing that celebrates a printing business's staff; or, in an older usage of the word, an event marking the completion of a novice printer's apprenticeship.
