Canadians score at the 2013 Benny awards
PITTSBURGH, PA—This year's Premier Print Award winners have been announced by the Printing Industries of America, and the list includes a handful of renowned Canadian companies.
Vancouver-based Hemlock Printers wins three best of category awards, also known as "Bennys," for business and annual reports - 4 or more colours, printers with 101-250 employees (Teck 2012 Annual Report); digital printing-novelty books (Dream Pieces: The SAIT Polytechnic Trades and Technology Complex); and environmentally sound company (North Face Broadside).
PDI Inc. garnered two nods, one in posters (Bell Helicopter Navy Poster) and another in digital printing - brochures and booklets, 4 or more colors (PDI-Innovation brochure & sleeve). B.C.'s Rhino Print Solution grabbed the Benny for art books - 1, 2, or 3 colours (Composition in Stone); and Webcom Inc. in Toronto won the prize in digital printing—juvenile books (These Hands). Toronto's Ryerson University took the win in the post-secondary students category (RyeTAGA Student Journal Publication).
Aside from the Benny awards, Canadians including C.J. Graphics, Hemlock and PDI were also honoured with numerous awards of recognition and certificates of merit.
All Benny-winning pieces will be included in a full-colour publication mailed to 10,000 print buyers, and recognized at the Premier Print Awards Gala Featuring the InterTech Technology Awards and the web2awards, held in conjunction with Print 13 on September 8 in Chicago.
