Konica Minolta eyes bigger role in commercial printing
LOS ANGELES, CA—Konica Minolta has targeted commercial printing as a key growth opportunity for the company. Executives made the announcement at an event earlier this week dubbed The Power of Performance Business Conference and Expo. Almost 1,000 dealers, company employees, product partners, and media gathered for a three-day extravaganza to hear the company outline its plans and see new product releases.

Konica Minolta is spearheading its push with the newly released 80 ppm bizhub Press C8000, which debuted at the OnDemand show last month in Philadelphia, and a new distribution agreement with Kodak to sell the Digimaster line of black and white presses and scanners. As well two new presses operating at 60 and 70 ppm will be unveiled at Ipex later this month.

With the express aim of shifting pages from offset to toner, the C8000 will be released in late summer. It prints at 1,200 dpi and features the company’s third-generation Simitri toner with a raised gloss level to match offset, the company says. Target markets include transpromo, direct mail, books and manuals.

More details will be forthcoming about the Kodak distribution deal later in the summer.
